Thank you for your interest in an internship in FES-Indonesia.
Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES)
An internship at the FES-office in Jakarta offers the possibility to experience and support the work of a political foundation. FES is an independent, non-governmental organisation, which is committed to the values of social democracy and international cooperation. For that purpose, FES Jakarta contributes with several programmes, which are accomplished together with local partners and organisations. The programs are: Democracy and Media, Security Sector Reform, Trade Unions, the Regional Gender Program and Conflict Prebention and Peace Building in Aceh province.
Internships - duration and working areas
FES offers internships to advanced students of Political Science, Social Science, Economics, or related studies, who want to experience the working environment of a political foundation in its office in Jakarta. Besides supporting the FES staff in research, workshop and conference organisation, writing of reports as well as further activities around the programs, it is possible to identify an area of particular interest. Thereby, the duration of an internship should not be less than two months, whereas FES cannot offer any financial compensation for any expenses during your stay. The working language is English, but skills in Bahasa Indonesia are of advantage. The FES-staff is always happy to hear some Bahasa Indonesia. It also makes Live much easier, if travelling around.
Indonesia is another culture and the living conditions are not the same as in Europe. You should be open-minded to the surrounding and the culture and be able to adopt to a certain degree. Once assigned you should prepare for your internship. FES will provide some material for that.
Application
In order to arrange a possible assignment, the English-written application should be submitted well in advance. Thereby, the following items have to be included:
- Motivation with explanation of your interest and expectations including the date and length of your planned internship
- Statement in what area you are especially interessted in
- Curriculum Vitae.
Please send your application and the required documents by email to Ms. Inneke Suhanda at inneke[at]fes.or.id
Note:
The intern positions in 2010 at FES Indonesia are already booked for approved candidates until the end of 2010. We will make an announcement on our website when we have vacant positions again.

The room is cleaned 6 times a week and fresh towels and sheets will be provided weekly. A common kitchen can be used any time. The room is available in an apartment compound called "Kemang Inn" and walkable within 15-20 minutes to the offices.
FES as well as current interns can assist with the reservation.

In its graduate and post-graduate programmes the FES supports students and academics with outstanding qualifications from Germany and abroad for whom an academic education is not only a first step in their professional career but also an expression of their commitment to democracy, the state, and society.
In its supplementary seminar programme, FES aims at building bridges between science and its practical application and at creating a better understanding about the purpose and the nature of democracy and social policy.
Information on the scholarship programme can be read from this PDF file (in English) or found from the German FES Website (in German).
